Driving our purpose forward
Purpose-led leaders are navigating a sea of challenges, from addressing geo-political uncertainty to meeting rising expectations from employees and customers, all while managing economic, regulatory and reputational risks. To tackle these challenges, we believe the whole sector needs to evolve —by rethinking how businesses and nonprofits work together to create lasting change.
At Benevity, we believe purpose is the future of business. It connects us to each other, our communities and the world. It sparks innovation, builds trust and delivers positive social, environmental and business impact. When businesses lead with purpose at scale, they drive the kind of meaningful change we all know they’re capable of. We help companies activate, amplify and measure their impact, turning purpose into real results.

How a client proved the business case for social impact

One of our clients, whose mission is to “power an inclusive future for all," believed its 80% employee engagement goal was not just good for the world, but also good for business.
Employees who took at least one community impact action per year had:
A three-year longitudinal study found that their employees who gave back through their social impact program stayed at the company longer, had higher bonuses, had higher odds of being promoted and received more peer recognition.
Unlocking potential with the Benevity Impact Index
In 2024, we launched the Benevity Impact Index (BII), a ground-breaking assessment that benchmarks companies on the depth and breadth of their impact investments across eight key areas considered critical for success.
The BII has already helped more than 150 companies transform their social impact by:
Measuring the maturity of corporate impact programs
Highlighting where they excel
Identifying opportunities for improvement
Providing tailored recommendations

Prioritizing mental health
Benevity is committed to creating real, meaningful support for the mental health and well-being of our people. This includes combining individual support with purpose-driven activities like volunteering, alongside generous mental health benefits to foster a healthier, kinder workplace.
Did you know? Out of 90 interventions, only charity or volunteer work has a notable positive effect on well-being

A recent British Journal of Industrial Relations study analyzed data from over 46,000 workers found that volunteering is the ONLY intervention out of 90 to suggest a positive impact on employee well-being and mental health. And, it had higher reports of indirectly leading to increased belonging amongst participants.
This aligns with other research that shows that employees who volunteer have greater job satisfaction – these employees are also twice as likely to recommend their company to prospective employees.
Benevity-ites are encouraged to volunteer their time to the nonprofits that mean the most to them through a combination of matching dollars and volunteer rewards up to $2500 (or local currency equivalent) per year.
Our commitment to pay equity
We’re dedicated to fair and equitable pay for everyone. We assess internal equity with every new hire and conduct regular pay reviews to ensure we’re upholding that standard. To make our pay equity analysis even more accurate, we are:
- Obtaining 3rd party feedback on our pay structures and ranges to ensure fairness in the structure placement for like roles.
- Utilizing national salary benchmarks to inform our pay practices.
- Evaluating pay equity data and correcting any unexplainable differences.
Shifting societal norms through the Benevity Parental Benefits Program
We believe the current approach to parental leave in Canada and the US creates barriers for women (and men) leading to gender imbalance, long-term career impacts and cultural stigma. We see this as a chance to drive both social progress and business impact.
Our Parental Benefits Program, which incentivizes shared parenting, is attempting to:
- Challenge the status quo for new parents
- Build a more gender-equal workplace and home
- Support a generation of more involved, nurturing parents
“Benevity's parental leave program has allowed me to support my family in several ways. With my first son, I was able to take six months of dedicated bonding time, during which we created many memories, including our first father-and-son trip.
Most recently, I took three months off to support my family as we adjusted to having newborn twins. Being able to take that time off without financial worries was invaluable—one less thing to worry about in our chaotic household with three boys under three! The program's flexibility allowed me to be present and supportive throughout the various stages of our children's lives.”

A Land Acknowledgment
As a Canadian-founded global social enterprise with people located across the world, we acknowledge that we operate on the traditional territories of numerous Indigenous communities.
We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on these lands and their peoples, and we are committed to deepening our understanding about the places where we work, strengthening our relationships with local Indigenous communities, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.
We honor and thank the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands for generations, and we acknowledge the ongoing contributions and presence of Indigenous communities here today.

Our Calgary headquarters resides on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This includes the Blackfoot Confederacy — comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai Nations — as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, which include the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations.
The City of Calgary is also home to the historic Northwest Métis and the to the Otipenisiwak Métis governments, Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6, and we recognize their deep connections to this land as well.
PLANET
Our environmental responsibility
Benevity is committed to reducing our environmental footprint through thoughtful operations, partnerships, and innovation. We embed sustainability into how we work — and into how our platform helps companies maximize their positive impact on our planet.
.
When it comes to measuring and reducing our carbon footprint, we’re focusing on key areas such as travel, events, data usage, supplier choices and office operations.
Walking the walk
We’re also using our own platform to inspire change from within. In partnership with our Green Guardians employee resource group, we encourage sustainable habits across our team. For example, during our 2024 Homecoming event, Benevity-ites participated in a Water Conservation Challenge that led to a savings of 95,000 liters of water in just 5 days.
You can start making an impact on the planet right now

Individual actions may seem small, but together they drive measurable change. When many people adopt simple habits—like reducing waste, conserving energy, or supporting ethical businesses—these efforts significantly reduce environmental impact and inspire others to take action, creating a ripple effect that leads to a more sustainable planet.
About Challenges

Challenges is our latest product innovation. It empowers companies to engage employees in small actions that drive big impacts in key areas such as sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and well-being.

Climate change is one of humanity’s greatest collective challenges
The interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss, sustainability, and extreme weather are becoming more urgent every year. These risks are deeply linked to climate change: rising temperatures accelerate biodiversity loss, while healthy ecosystems protect us from growing climate shocks.
We’re seeing this urgency reflected in our own platform. Over the past few years, there has been a notable rise in environmental grants, volunteering, micro-actions, and disaster relief efforts—all showing a growing collective commitment to climate action.
Ways we’re reducing our environmental impact

We’ve introduced a Carbon Offset Travel Process to reduce the impact of business travel.

We’re committed to high sustainability standards for all new office spaces. Our Calgary headquarters is a LEED Gold Certified building, recognized for energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable design.

What's Next
Beyond managing our own footprint, we are considering the ways in which we can best contribute to our planet’s future and will be determining our climate commitments over the next year.
GOVERNANCE
We’ve been a B Corp since 2011
From the start, Benevity has been on a mission to disrupt traditional philanthropy — and prove that you can do well by doing good.
As a B Corp — and a benefit company in British Columbia since December 2022 — we are held to high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
Our next score will be available in 2026.

What is Benevity’s public benefit?

As a benefit company, we’re committed to responsible and sustainable business practices while promoting public benefits.
Through our platform, we drive social impact by empowering companies to use their reach and resources to support their communities in multiple ways: community investment, coordinated volunteering and donation opportunities. Benevity supports more than 2 million nonprofits across a diverse range of causes, from humanitarian aid and the environment to education, social justice, and cultural preservation. We also work closely with nonprofit partners to help amplify their reach and impact, while continually evolving and expanding the ways we deliver public impact.
Every benefit company's success is measured by evaluating its performance against its own goals, focusing on a commitment to public benefits and sustainable business practices. We assess our progress through goals that reflect our commitment to people, planet and purpose. That includes tracking outcomes related to employee engagement, charitable support and community development, and assessing opportunities to grow and improve.
To guide and develop our efforts, we’ve adopted the standards of the B Corporation certification.
Note: A Benefit Company (or benefit corporation) is a legal structure, while a Certified B Corp is a certification awarded by B Lab to companies meeting rigorous social and environmental performance standards.
Benevity’s Double Materiality Assessment
In 2024, we engaged our people, clients, nonprofits, partners, board members, and industry peers in our first double materiality assessment to better understand the priorities of our key audiences and identify where we can make the greatest impact.
Key priorities — ranging from cybersecurity and data privacy to community impact and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging — emerged, guiding our future plans and ensuring we can create value for both society and our business.

Our approach to AI governance
Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing industries and unlocking new opportunities for innovation, and the social impact sector is no exception. At Benevity, we see AI as a powerful tool to enhance giving, empower nonprofits, and drive more effective social outcomes.
But with this opportunity comes responsibility. We recognize the risks AI can pose, including bias, data privacy concerns, and ethical challenges. As we explore AI’s potential, we are committed to responsible innovation, transparency, and ongoing learning as we explore what’s possible. We are actively developing a framework for ethical AI governance at Benevity, and we look forward to sharing our progress and collaborating as we shape a more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful future.
